We at Geodis BM apply a "can do" approach
to sustainable development; we implement a variety of initiatives
and projects to sharpen our competitive edge and protect the environment,
particularly in the scope of ISO 14001 certification. |
|
| |
| Reconciling competitiveness with the need
to protect the environment |
| |
| In the transport and logistics business, environmental policy inevitably
involves reducing carbon emissions. Geodis BM deals with this issue on a
number of levels: |
| |
 |
The IT reporting system in place at all our
sites enables us to optimise loading, reduce the number of
empty containers on the roads and up our lorry fill ratio. |
 |
The road safety and common sense driving training
courses followed by all our drivers enable us to reduce vehicle
fuel consumption by 8-10%. |
 |
Renewing our tractor fleet every three years enables
us to benefit from the latest technological advances from vehicle
manufacturers and means that all our vehicles fully comply with EURO
3 standards. |
 |
We use "green" tyres. |
|
| |
| Using alternative solutions |
| |
 |
We develop combined
transport solutions for general goods and bulk liquid cargo. |
 |
We regularly use rail-road transport,
particularly the Alpine rail motorway. |
 |
We implement individual solutions for dedicated
transport segments, for example: lorries that run
on NGV (natural gas for vehicles). |
|
 |
 |
|
| |
| Recycling and managing waste |
| |
 |
All worn-out tyres are recycled. |
 |
Waste products and parts from our workshops are salvaged:
waste oil, batteries, spare parts, etc. |
 |
Supplies (ink cartridges and toner) and waste paper
from our offices are collected. |
 |
We collect scrap metal and boxes from some of our customers
for sorting by certified organisations. |
 |
Spent IBCs
and drums are recovered and recycled or used for energy conversion. |
 |
Residues from our lorry wash facilities are recycled
via thermal treatment. |
